January 31st Troop 127 had a church Lock-in at the Farmersville United Church of Christ. We arrived around 4PM on Saturday and started our overnight lock-in at the church. This lock-in is always fun and this year was no exception. We started the night outside learning about Matchless Firebuilding using three different methods Flint and Steel, Steel Wool and a Battery, and A Firesteel Sparker. The filnt and steel was the hardest we had to use char cloth to catch the spark then blow it into a flame. The steel wool was not verry hard to start but it was deffenitaly the coolest when you see how little power it takes to start a fire. However the easyiest was the firesteel sparker and jute twine...One Strike and flames!!! no blowing... After the Pyros where done "Testing the methods" (Playing with Fire) e returned inside to start the true Lock-in. We Played many different Video Games as this is the one event each year that electronic games are allowed troop events. but after only 2 hours the boys wanted something else to due so we started the traditional Lock-in Games... Steal the Bacon, Sardeens, Monopoly,ect... Around 4:00 AM the last of the scouts fell asleep. and the leaders could go to bed...just to wakeup at 6:30 to get the boys started on clean-up and breakfast. Surprisingly no one fell asleep durring the church service on sunday morning. All in all I would Highly suggest other troops have simmilar events it brought in two new scouts, and the Community really said they enjoyed having the scouts around. Scoutmaster Dale
