March 7th and 8th.  Troop 18 went to the Yellow springs area for our annual bushwahcked campout.  The troop stayed at BSA camp Birch located adjacent to John Bryan State park.  The weather was perfect for our hike, Using an adult leaders newly aquired toy, Garmin GPS, We Blazed our own trail which started in Camp Birch into John Bryan over to Glen Helen preserve back thru the state park and finally back to our cabins.  The pedometer only read 9.6 miles but the legs read about 40.  And when the whole troop zonks out by 9:30 p.m. you know they all got a work out.  Overall we all had a great time and look forward to next year.

Troop 127 - Bushwhack Hike 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Troop 127 held its Bushwhack hike at John Bryan State Park on 2/21/2008.

17 scouts and scouters all hiked this event along the beautiful ice covered canyon.

Pictures taken at this event can be found Here in the troop photo gallery.

We started at the parking lot near Clifton Mills and hiked the south side of the gorge first  braving Ice covered paths along the way. After covering the south side of the loop we proceeded to head to the Picnic Shelter for lunch

The troop carried backpacking meals for lunch that will probably be taken on Mischa Mokwa hike in October. The meals eaten on this hike included the following…Rainier Rice served as burritos with cheese, San Juan Stroganoff, and Southwest Chili.  After the fine cuisine and a desert of double stuff OREO cookies we continued the hike and arrived back at the parking lot around 2:30pm.

As all good scouts we followed our stomachs to Young’s Golden Jersey Inn for dinner and believe it or not ice cream…

Scoutmaster Dale would like to thank all the youth that attended for the their great attitude all day!!!  You are the ones that it make it easy to understand why so many adults volunteer to help with scout groups all over the Miami Valley.

Scoutmaster Dale would also like to thank the adults that made this event such a success without you continued support Scouting would not be the great program that it is.
